Where was it I was reading about how they were really Buzzard Collectors? Anyone recall that?[/color:post_uid0]

A Bussard Collector is a starship hydrogen ramscoop. A Buzzard Collector would be the engine of a jet aircraft flying at low altitude over the Arizona desert.[/color:post_uid0]

Don't worry, Jedi -- FBC doesn't stand for Forgotten By Colin. After ENT Week, when I have time to focus on other site stuff again, I have a plan for making up the lost FBC time. For now, everybody just rest your fiving muscles. (Not you, staffers.)[/color:post_uid0]

Thanks for the reassurance, Zeke. By the way, do you plan to do any season 2 fivers, or just season three ones?[/color:post_uid0]

According to the US Navy web site:

[b:post_uid0]Where does the term "Bravo Zulu" originate?[/b:post_uid0]

The term originates from the Allied Signals Book (ATP 1), which in the aggregate is for official use only. Signals are sent as letters and/or numbers, which have meanings by themselves sometimes or in certain combinations. A single table in ATP 1 is called "governing groups," that is, the entire signal that follows the governing group is to be performed according to the "governor." The letter "B" indicates this table, and the second letter (A through Z) gives more specific information. For example, "BA" might mean "You have permission to . . . (do whatever the rest of the flashing light, flag hoist or radio transmission says) "BZ" happens to be the last item in the governing groups table. It means "well done".[/color:post_uid0]

Yes, much to their chagrin. Midshipman 2nd Class Heath, at your service. Scooter is quite correct on the meaning of Bravo Zulu, and for a prize maybe we can AD14 sometime. I'm sure Marc got my meaning; he has to go through all my TNG fivers and remove all of my naval terminology.

Oh, PHJ, I loved your HMS Enterprise avatar. I'd love to find a good image of the sloop Enterprise, 18. If you know of any please let me know.[/color:post_uid0]

>> I'm sure Marc got my meaning <<

Actually, I missed it. I was so busy trying to figure out what I got "wrong on many levels" that I missed the naval meaning of "Bravo Zulu." :) In any case, Wade is way ahead of me on naval terminology, since he's the real McCoy (no pun intended) whereas I'm just an enthusiastic amateur. There's a joke in an upcoming fiver I wrote (it should appear in a couple of weeks) that's a tip of the hat to the U.S. Navy, and which I'm sure Wade will catch right away.[/color:post_uid0]
