Remember Top 10 List #83? It was a birthday present for Gatac, a forum community member who happens to be very fond of the movie Equilibrium. How fond, you ask? Don't ask me, ask him -- or just read his first fiver, Five-Minute Equilibrium.

Now, those who have asked to do movie fivers before will be crying foul here, because our usual policy is that only staffers do movies. That's still the usual policy, but I invited Gatac to write this one for the 2006 site anniversary event. That event, of course, didn't get off the ground in time (as tends to happen with our anniversary events every other year). It's still a solid concept, the plans still work, so it'll be the 2007 event instead. But I've already made Gatac wait too long to see his fiver published. So here it is, and I think you'll agree that he's off to a good start.

Words can not describe how happy I am right now. And proud. But mostly happy.

Well, I guess they can. But they won't. The bastards.

As a matter of fact, I do remember that. (I seem to recall Grammaton Clerics popping up a couple of other places around that time, too.)

Mary: I want my phone call.
Cleric Preston: I'm sorry, the rebels stole our only telephone last Montag.
Hmmm... :D

I'm prepared to explain every last joke, if I have to. This one, however, requires nothing more than a quick Wikipedia search.

I'm pretty sure he got it.

(I seem to recall Grammaton Clerics popping up a couple of other places around that time, too.)

Yep. There was a throwaway reference in Minutemen, Part 1 that I think was pretty clever.

Jedi, you worry me.

Anyone with an avatar featuring Catbert should worry people. Great fiver, Gatac! I don't know if I should thank you for the book reference - or is that book-extermination reference?

Jedi, you worry me.
Then my work here is done.

Cleric Brandt: Raid raid raid raid RAID!
Cleric Preston: Save save SAVE!
Cleric Brandt: RAID!
Cleric Preston: SAVE!
Cleric Brandt: ...Raid.
Cleric Preston: Dammit.
I must admit, this scene puzzled me a little. But it's probably because I don't remember the film all that well, rather than it being too obscure. Which part is it supposed to be again?

This is the warehouse raid, where Preston tries to lead a small group of rebels to safety only to run into Brandt, who almost forces Preston to execute the rebels before having the Sweepers do it.

Ahh, okay. I sorta remember that now.

I don't usually read fivers for movies I haven't seen, but... wow, Gatac wrote it?

In Borat's immortal words, "Verrrrry Niiiice! High five!" Particularly the "Raid/Save" scene.

Is that in the "I didn't know he could write!", "Hell of a first fiver!" or "Reminds me of someone else!" sense?

(Hint: I appreciate answers of B.)

You didn't label them. How will you know B doesn't mean the first one?

As long as the sun shines, I KNOW EVERYTHING!

Ah yes. And when the sun goes down, you become the Incredible Hulk, so you've got all your bases covered.

GRAR! HULK SMASH PUNY SET THEORY!

Is the collection of all sets not smashed by Gatac itself a set?

(Btw, for those who don't know, the Hulk's transformations really were a day/night thing in his first appearance.)

You'll hurt me for asking this, I'm sure, but does this mean that any other non-staff written movie fivers will be making an appearance soon?

Zeke

No.

And by no I mean yes.

And by yes I mean probably.

...You had the strangest resemblance to David Cameron just then.
