As if we didn't have enough geek holidays already, here's a new one. Universal Day of the Jedi, set to start this May 25th, the 30th anniversary of the release of A New Hope.

Opinions on how we can celebrate it?

Oh, and as it's also Towel Day, I think it'd be cool for some sort of dicotomy event. Using the h2g2 font to write Star Wars and the Star Wars font to write The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

Could we slaughter all the Jedi by letting loose the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal?

When is the Universal Day of the Sith?

I don't know.

Maybe we could write two fanfivers for the big day. One where we put Star Wars characters into h2g2, and one vice-versa.

How do you find these things?

You have been diverted...

How do I find these things? "Way too much free time" and "up all night" come to mind.

How do you survive? You're here all DAY too.

I look forward to your cross-fivers, too.

I told them and I told them and I told them that my day would come, but would they listen?

My cross-fivers? Erm, does that mean that you would want me to make "Star Wars as Hitchhiker's" and "Hitchhiker's as Star Wars" fivers even if they're only posted in here?

Well, I work overnights, but the nights I'm not working I'm usually in bed by three. I sleep when you guys are usually at work so as far as you're concerned I guess I look omnipresent.

I probably just screwed up with timezones again.

Yes I would like to see your cross-fivers even if only here. But Maybe Zeke would be nice and put a link to them in the news post or something.

I guess I'd better get started on those, then... :)

Okay, I can't decide. Do we want:

1. Write a fiver of the h2g2 plot in the Star Wars style, and vice-versa.
2. Write a fiver of the h2g2 characters in the Star Wars universe, and vice-versa.

AKAArzosah

Both? The characters swapped over, thus making the original storylines have the style of the opposite storylines.

Hmm, I'll see if I can find something that I saw a while ago...

Here it is: http://www.farscapefantasy.com/videos/index.php?set=video&id=637

Or at least I think this is the one.

Huh? If the h2g2 characters are doing the plot of h2g2 in the SW style, that's option one. If the h2g2 characters are doing the plot of SW in the SW style, that's option two. All that's left is the h2g2 characters doing the plot of SW in the h2g2 style, which I suppose is option three. Actually, looking at it from that angle, option three looks to be the more entertaining possibility.

I think option three is what I just suggested, isn't it?

Looking at my previous post, wow that made no sense at all! Sorry.

Yeah option three is what I was ever-so-clearly trying to suggest.

Sounds like a plan.

Belated thought: Shouldn't the Universal Day of the Jedi have been May the Fourth?

Nate the Great
05-06-2007, 07:30 PM
Why May 4th?

Oh, and here's a question for the Warsies out there: is there a "standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom" in the Star Wars universe? I kinda wanta make it the narrator of the "Star Wars as h2g2" crossfiver.

Not that I know of, but then my knowledge of the EU is pretty damn limited.

Nate the Great

Yeah, so I'm going to draft the Encyclopedia Galactica into being the counterpart for the SW universe. I'm already working on possible jokes.

AKAArzosah

"Don't Panic! Panic leads to fear, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate..." is inscribed in large friendly letters on its cover, right?

Nate the Great

I'm sad to say that the crossfivers aren't going to be happening. Deciding to write them is one thing, actually coming up with good jokes is another. You guys didn't want to know, but these are what the casts would have been:

Hitchhiker's Character Star Wars Character
Arthur Dent Luke Skywalker
Ford Prefect Obi-Wan Kenobi
Zaphod Beeblebrox Han Solo
Trillian Princess Leia
Marvin C3-PO
Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz Jabba the Hutt
Gag Halfrunt Emporer Palpatine
Humma Kavula Darth Vader

AKAArzosah

Hmm, I would have suggested swapping Han Solo and Obi-Wan and having R2D2 as Marvin, but then I have only watched the TV
Series-y thing and not read the books, and I'm hardly a die hard fan of Hitchhiker's Guide.

What if you put them out by next year...?

Oooh oooh, OR what if it became a miscellaneous completely unauthorised Fiver by Committee?

Would anyone else participate?

How much did you get done?

Will Carlos finally confess his love to Angelica? These questions and more, answered in the next episode...

Nate the Great

Zaphod and Obi-Wan? That's crossing the line from humor to farce if you ask me.

How much did I get done? Just the intro, the cast list, and a fairly humorous bit of banter between myself, the Guide, and the Encyclopedia Galactica.

If you guys pester me, maybe I'll try to get them out by next year, but who knows?

R2 doesn't talk! If anything I'd have Eddie play him and communicate through hums!

Did I mention that I hardly know Hitchhikers at all? Watched the TV Series about two years ago (I do own it, maybe I'll watch it again). I have never read the book.

I was more thinking 'Han would be better as Ford'.

Nate the Great
05-23-2007, 01:55 AM
Ford and Han sorta make sense, but Ford isn't really a flyboy OR a womanizer, so how do you explain him as Han?

AKAArzosah
05-23-2007, 10:23 AM
I just think they both have the same 'this and this are common place, duh' attitude. And they get the same responses, ie 'is that good?' and 'who DOES that?'. Am I making sense?
Probably not, I'd guess.

I suppose I mean something along the lines of the 'She'll make point five past light speed' and the resultant lack of awe, and in Hitchhiker's, Arthur not really caring that Ford claims to be from 'a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse'. It's sort of difficult to really draw a good parallel between a genuine SciFi and a Comedy.

Nate the Great
05-23-2007, 08:28 PM
It's not that Arthur doesn't care about Betelgeuse, it was more shock and the fact that he's still in denial about Mr. Prosser wanting to knock his house down.

AKAArzosah

Yeah like I said, I don't know it. I was looking at a transcript for that bit. I couldn't remember it at all.

So here we are. I hope everyone decides to stay cool and froody today. May the forty-two be with you!
