My new comp is at last starting to come together. Apparently all that's needed now is the motherboard, which should be arriving in a week or so. Anyway, the case that I just got today looks uber-cool, so I've put a (not terribly good) picture of it up on Geocities. So, for your veiwing pleasure, I present Zorro! (yeah, it's a stupid name, but I plan to change it).

The silver circle bit on the front actually has a Z in it (which I suspect lights up when plugged in too).[/color:post_uid0]

It almost very nearly works!

It should be working already of course, but there was about a week's delay because the power supply was duuf and had to be replaced. It still needs the hard drive actually installing, but hopefully it'll all be fully working by the week's end.[/color:post_uid0]

...after only 16 days... emphasis on the word "nearly"... not bad! :D

My computer worked fine when I assembled it, but it took three weeks (one normal week of shipping and a TWO-WEEK-DELAY!) to arrive.[/color:post_uid0]

Just a day or two to go now, I swear....

Actually, I really will if it's not working by then.[/color:post_uid0]

I arrived in Ottawa on December 15th. Most of my computer followed some time in the first week of January. Yesterday I finally ordered a new monitor to replace the one I left behind and sold to Dad.

Finally, within a few business days, I can surf the Net in my room and won't have to walk back and forth to the lab.[/color:post_uid0]

That's one of the few Trek jokes that my entire family gets. "Exploitation begins at home!" WHoopee![/color:post_uid0]

He's referring to his brain, actually.
What it's doing [i:post_uid0]before[/i:post_uid0] his eyes, I have no idea. Perhaps it is trying to rewrite the anatomy books.[/color:post_uid0]

Yes you do, but since it is before your eyes, you're obviously not using it [/color:post_uid0]

Huzzah! It works at last!

[i:post_uid0]This announcement is brought to you live from PHJ's new computer, Zen, which has a CD re-writer, a DVD drive, a zippy processor, oddles of memory and an absolutely super video card that does just about everything but the laundry.[/i:post_uid0]

Of course, it [i:post_uid0]does[/i:post_uid0] run on Windoze, so it's almost obligatory that it freezes without warning every so often.

EDIT: A picture -

Yes, that is my PS2 on top. I can play it though my funky video card as well. You can also see a small part of the crapload of wires that sprout out the back of the case.[/color:post_uid0]

Pst! PHJ's brain? You there? Yeah! Guess someone forgot to tell you-- Geocities doesn't allow remote loading of images!
You'll have to get the image onto a webpage for us to view it.[/color:post_uid0]

Sure it does. Just not by clicking it. (Copy the link into another window)[/color:post_uid0]

Geocities and most other "Free Webspace!" providers have a policy against remote linking. Since your browser transmits referral information (i.e. which site linked to this), they can see whether an authorized view is taking place (A Geocities website is loading the picture), or if it's hotlinked. Opening a new window and inserting the URL manually (or adding a space before the URL and hitting Enter again) overrides this behaviour.

As for the case - I prefer it less flashy, but it's looking quite nice. Good job!

I do know about Geocites, as it happens, I'm just too lazy to stick them in a page.

And if you think this case is flashy, Gatac, you ahould have seen some of the others that were for sale. There were a couple in particular that were festooned (well, okay, they had two) with plastic coloured cylinders that were backlit. Really rather ugly looking, or so I thought.[/color:post_uid0]

Well, I must say I'm opposed to just about all kinds of extra illumination on a case, particularly blinking LEDs. (Borg syndrome.) But to each his own. I think a properly blacklit case can look quite nice, but I wouldn't do it myself.
