Who or what are those?

admiral sab
08-11-2004, 12:22 PM
I've been wondering the same thing.

I've learned though it's best not to ask, as you will most certainly regret it after recieving the answer. ;)

I want to know it anyway

even if I have to cry afterwards

Maybe it's Klingon.

danieldoof
08-11-2004, 01:24 PM
I don't think so...

too few ' (apostrophes) for being klingon

Alexia

Dunno either but it is in the ENT fiver, Proving Ground

NAHTMMM

It's from Sluggy Freelance or some other online comic I think ;)

catalina_marina
08-11-2004, 03:27 PM
It's a Zeke thingie. Ask him.

And Opium: I only had 40%! :(

Well that's what you get, I guess, when you guess DS9 over Days, and the correct answer turns out to be the Simpsons.

mudshark
08-11-2004, 03:41 PM
It's from VVS9, originally.

Hotaru
08-11-2004, 06:48 PM
I just always assumed Zeke made it up. I guess I was wrong.

I got 70! Hoopla! It probably helped that I my browser froze up halfway through, and I knew the answers to the first couple of questions. :D

Maybe it's Klingon.

Nah, Canadian. And we all know what a wierd language that is.

Zeke

Well, while you try to figure that out, how about go to my quiz?

"ARRRRR! We be the thread hijackers! Where be the rum?"

To answer the question, Shark and Hotaru are both right. It is from VVS9 (specifically, a flashback in "King of Kings, Part II: Light Unseen"), and Zeke did make it up (that's one of my episodes). Originally it's a Sulorian expletive. I've since used it a number of times around the site; a couple that spring to mind are "Proving Ground," Paneldemonium Part 8, and the O. C. pilot fiver.

MaverickZer0
08-11-2004, 08:13 PM
Yeah....hey!

...See? I have never said 'eh' in my life. Then again, I live near Vancouver. I can order sushi in Japanese and say several other useful phrases. Maybe Canadian is so confusing because it's a whole bunch of languages.

At least we don't think everyone will understand it if we speak it slowly enough.

catalina_marina
08-11-2004, 10:18 PM
^Slowly? I've heard loudly. And believe me, PHJ does NOT speak slowly.

Thanks for clearing that up!

It was used in:
Pandelmonium, Part 8
O.C. - "The Pilot"
ENT - "Dead Stop"
ENT - "Proving Ground"
ENT - "Carpenter Street"
VVS9 - "King of Kings Part II: Light Unseen" (not a fiver)
The forum subtitle
Five-Minute QChat (not official but whatever)

Well, while you try to figure that out, how about go to my quiz?

That seems to happen all the time - just look at "Saturday IRC"!

PHJ's not Canadian, though. (Eh?)

Actually, I also say "hey" rather than "eh". As in, "Nice summer we're havin', hey? NOT! Stupid arctic cold fronts." Maybe all Canadians say "hey" and we just get misheard all the time....

Opium
08-12-2004, 04:53 AM
Qe pronouce "eh" as "hey" in Canadian, but in American speak it sounds like "eh". :P

Did I say it was me? Didn't I say it was you?

I'm only Dutch you know.

Damn you! It better be coming my way. I was out watching the meteor shower last night (which kicked ass, btw) and it was only plus 2! In AUGUST! WTF? It's like 10 degrees below normal and we haven't had a hot sunny weekend since mid-July. (I've been waiting for one so I can reduce the nasty swimsuit tan I got mid-July. Still waiting.) So whoever stole Saskatchewan's summer weather, I want it back. (B.C., this means you.)

Take the weather away! It's +30 today here in Calgary, which I know isn't that high in comparison to some other places but in compariosn to -30 I'm boiling. Heat makes me lazy, very lazy. Take it back!

MaverickZer0

Say...*cracks knuckles* how about Florida?

Took me a minute to realize you were speaking in metric. It's a trick to make Canada sound colder than it is, isn't it, thereby scaring everyone else away and KEEPING IT FOR YOURSELVES!

Hmm. That was a question, and yet it didn't end with a question mark. How odd.

Hotaru

If it were at trick to scare people away from Canada, then we would chose a less-world accepted measuring system. Like imperial.

MaverickZer0
08-14-2004, 06:08 AM
Metric works on the Americans though, and they're the only ones we really want out.

Them and the British, that is. Maybe we can come up with a new system for them.

Just the Americans, really. And it's not the Canadians' fault you use a weird system.

We use simperial.

Only in Canada can you drive at 80 km/h, then spot something a hundred yards off. Only in Canada can you have size 10 feet, be 6'0", yet say water freezes at 0. Canada will rule the world.

Ahem. Sorry.

MaverickZer0
08-15-2004, 08:00 PM
No actually.

Do you guys have a world domination plan too?

Chaud_Blaze
08-15-2004, 08:25 PM
Actually Mav every country has a plan for world domination just some are better than others, Antarctica (or was the arctic eh the one with penguins) has a plan that involves jet propelled penguins with those little pop cans tied to them and something involving jello, duct tape and 100 fluffy bunny slippers. George bush's secret plan involves guns, more guns, planes, tanks, ships, more guns and a Atomic bomb or 4

MaverickZer0
08-15-2004, 08:30 PM
Which is why Canada's is cool. No one knows what ours is.

It involves BAAs, however. Lots of them.

Chaud_Blaze
08-15-2004, 08:32 PM

We plan to get the whole world high so we can easily take over with the small army we do have.

PointyHairedJedi
08-15-2004, 09:20 PM
I will say only this - Scotland's plan involves genetically modified super-midges, haggis, and football hooligans. Oh, and naturally bagpipes. They are absolutely central to the whole thing.

NAHTMMM

no only canada

MaverickZer0
08-15-2004, 11:52 PM
BAAs are the best weapon ever. They are Canada's form of ICBMs.

Except much cooler.

Our plan also involves polar bears. And maple syrup. Lots of maple syrup. And rabid beavers.

mudshark
08-16-2004, 12:02 AM
Wolverines too, I'll bet.

Chaud_Blaze

Oh, you should see the weather here. All of July and August so far have been cloudy, rainy and gloomy. There were 8 straight days of NO SUNSHINE at all. In the middle of the summer!

And back on topic - nice, nice, now we know where the "dsokdpach" is from.

Yeah, Celeste, you have to be careful about that. He did that to the last person that pissed him off. For example, using more than one exclamation point in the same sentence. Just look at the IJD GAF FAQ (http://www.fiveminute.net/about/ijdgaf.html)!

Celeste

Celeste

There was another board. I used to have the highest log count of all the forum members. But then the boards crashed and all the data was lost, including my Board at Work fivers, which I started while working at the URI Library 3 years ago. Which actualy makes me having this member title for even longer now that I remember correctly.

Zeke
08-21-2004, 03:14 AM
Okay, I've already apologized to Celeste off the forums, but I should apologize to you guys too for my post yesterday. I'm sure it made me seem like some sort of tyrant... I was just frustrated about a bunch of things and my patience was thin. (Besides, this thread wouldn't be complete without someone acting like a dsokdpach, would it?) I've edited the post out.

And Celeste now has her new title! It was a close call between this one and "Cuter than Spot" (which I like because it works on a couple of levels, so she may get that one eventually), but Cel seemed to like this one better when I ran them by her.

In future, guys... if you really, really want your title changed, and I don't get the message the first time, please just PM me about it. Don't do anything drastic like making a new account or blowing up Luxembourg.

Zeke once descibed it to me as the "gold standard". But, everyone needs a change now and then really.

Don't make too much of it though - because really, at the end of the day it's just a little line of text under your username on an internet message board. Not something that it's all that worth getting annoyed over.
