Our Five-Minute Firefly launch continues today with two more of Jade's fivers: "Bushwhacked (../firefly/fiver.php?ep=bushwhacked)" and "Our Mrs. Reynolds (../firefly/fiver.php?ep=ourmrsreynolds)." (Noticed the new front-page gag for this event yet?)

Don't make me hurt you. I've got both the actual theme song and the Mosquito spoof memorized. :)

Simon: Inara, we're not in the Trekverse.
Inara: Oh yeah? How can you tell?
Simon: You're not wearing spandex.
So, so, true.
Wash: About geese? Or how about old DOS games? Don't you think I look like Duke Nukem?
Hey, you're right. I never noticed that.
Great fivers, Jade.

Mal: I'm very, very drunk. Hey, what a pretty girl!
Saffron: I'm afraid you've underestimated me, mister. See, not only am I a pretty girl, I am a pretty girl who is at this very moment marrying you! And you're not even noticing!
Mal: As I said before... very, very drunk.
Poor unsuspecting Mal. :D
Great stuff, Jade.

Yes.
And I still don't get it.
Probably because I've never seen Firefly, and I have no idea why people are losing their heads about Serenity (which I am assuming is a film based on Firefly...or something?. Yes, I am aware I'm rubbish.)

Never seen Firefly? I smell a challenge! :P
(You are correct in your assumption, by the way. the gag refers to a line in the intro song that goes "You can't take the sky from me/Since I found Serenity" - it's fairly self-explanatory once you know that.)
Actually, the lines occur in the other order. These are the full lyrics:
Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me...
The song is called "Ballad of Serenity," and for those who didn't know this, it's by Joss himself. (BVS fans know of Joss's fondness for musical composition -- he wrote all the songs in "Once More With Feeling" and co-wrote "Blue," the song played at the beginning and end of S7's "Conversations With Dead People.") It's an effective theme that fits the show's atmosphere perfectly. You can download it at FireflyWiki (http://www.fireflywiki.org/Firefly/FireflyThemeSong).
One more comment on the theme: the line about finding Serenity isn't just a pun. It makes more sense in light of this scene from the original pilot:
Simon: If [the Battle of Serenity] was so horrible, why'd he name the ship after it?
Zoe: Once you've been in Serenity, you never leave. You just learn to live there.

Serenity is also on the soundtrack and I think he co-wrote most of the music for the film
Over here we've still got to wait until friday for the filmjavascript:emoticon ('')

Just for comparison, the Mosquito theme is:
Take my dog, take my cat
Western without cowboy hats
Look at me, I'm on TV
You can't take this show from me
Take our Doctor, make him squeal
I'm told our whore is quite a deal
We say "zed" instead of "zee"
You can't take this ship from me
They're airing baseball yet again
We might not break episode ten
But you can't take this show from me...

See now, there you go again! Can't you just let a fella be hopelessly wrong in peace for a change? :P
