Okay, show of hands. Who remembers what we did for Hallowe'en '03? It was one of our better mini-events: each of the (then) five staffers did something with a spooky theme. It was a good time. What really makes it memorable, however, is the second day, which featured two Big Deals: the beginning of IJD GAF's Alien (../alien) series, and my parody of The Ring (../movies/thering.html), one of the most popular fivers to date. (Around the net, that is. Most people at our forums haven't seen The Ring.)


This year, circumstances have aligned just right for us to make a sequel to that event. Welcome to Hallowe'en '05: Hallowe'en '03 II.


Like its predecessor, this is a mini-event, but not to be underestimated. Here's the first batch:
<ul> IJD GAF kicks us off with Alien<sup>3</sup> (../alien/alien3.php).
Handily enough, Smallville had a Hallowe'en episode this year (largely a Buffy homage -- with James Marsters, yet!), and Derek has fived it: "Thirst (../smallville/fiver.php?ep=thirst)."[/list]

Nice fiver, IJD. I've never seen the movie, so I can't really comment beyond that.

D'you know, I've never seen any of the Alien films? Although on the other hand I can now say that I've seen Plan 9 From Outer Space, which was glorious in it's sheer badness.

(Also, having finally seen Ringu I went and read the Ring fiver at long last. Good stuff, Zeke.)

Only problem with that, in my opinion, is whoever fives it should be someone who didn't: faint, puke, scream in bloody murder, attempt suicide, have a heart attack, or attempt to spoil it for everyone else, and those people are, I believe, very hard to come by, and I know I'm not one of those few people.

Ya know... A movie that would be really appropriate for any year's 5MBOO event would be a fiver of The Exorcist Somebody look up the Flash animation of The Exorcist ... with bunnies. :D [Edit: er, here (http://www.angryalien.com/0204/exorcistbunnies.html) ]

Anyway, in my German courses we were taught both "bitte sehr" and "bitte schön." I tend to use the former because "danke" often comes with its own "schön," and it sounds better not to repeat it.

KGM: I've never seen The Exorcist and I probably don't have the stomach for it, but I love The Shining. My "Doctor's Orders" fiver has lots of references to it, since it was clearly one of the inspirations for that episode. By the way, if you've only seen the movie, I strongly recommend reading the book. It's much scarier and more effective than the movie, and there are some surprising differences in the plot. Very different ending, for example. (And why they changed Room 217 to Room 237 for the film is beyond me...) But I admit there's no substitute for watching Jack Nicholson devour the scenery like a starving man.

According to IMDb, they changed Room 217 to 237 because the real owners of the hotel used felt that people would never want to use that room if they saw the movie, thus costing them (the owners) extra.

I've read the book, but I was never much of a fan of King's work.

And yes, the list of people who can five The Exorcist WOULD be kinda slim, as I've said. Hell, I passed out!

Fiving that requires watching it again. Even if I were willing, I have no idea what I'd do with the crucifix scene.

Although the opening sequence with Palpatine driving by in the farm cart has potential...

A) I mutilate my words to give you international folks a chance to read it correctly, and get mocked. It figures.

B) Nobody in the real world says "Danke schön" unless they want to emphasize the unreal sound of it. :)

C) I'm not even going to touch on the issue of German as a second language. In my experience, it usually leads to bad things. (Both other people learning it and me commenting on it, that is.)
