So I gave up on the room mate... I decided to get a cat instead. Cats are far less annoying than room mates. They don`t pay rent, though, but nevermind, :D

But how should I name it? I asked my friends - one suggested Ricardo, the other Belzebub. They`re not very useful.

Anyone useful on this Forum? :p[/color:post_uid0]

Find a good Klingon or Bajoran name. Depending on the temper of the Cat. :)[/color:post_uid0]

NAHTMMM 01-27-2004 04:35 AM

I believe the rule with cats is to name it whatever you want, since it won't come when you call anyway :smile:[/color:post_uid0]

Katy Jane 01-27-2004 04:43 AM

What ever you do, don't name it Zebu :O :lol:

Like NAH said, no matter what you name it it's not going to come when you call. I usualy find that if you wait a whild animals will name them selves. It will do something or will make you think of something, and you'll have your name.

and if that doesn't work, take Celeste's advice :D[/color:post_uid0]

I was about to suggest Delenn, but I figure it's a tomcat, no? Name it John. It's a good solid name for a creature with nine lives :)

I'm kidding. I say give it a good Elvish name. But only because I have a fetish for Elvish names. Harrumph. Katy Jane has good ideas, though: you might want to listen to her.[/color:post_uid0]

My cat comes when you call her, but only if you call her Food.

What colour is the cat? If it's grey, you can call it Mithcharoth (grey-jaw).[/color:post_uid0]

Not me, but that's never stopped me before.

The obvious name is, of course, "Spot."

Um, just before I go trawling for ideas, what kind of name do you have in mind? Noble? Humorous? Friendly? Trek-y? And, male or female?[/color:post_uid0]

PointyHairedJedi 01-27-2004 10:04 PM

I'd pick something [i:post_uid0]Dune[/i:post_uid0]-ish, like Thufir, Guerney, Shaddam or Hasimir. But then I'm a nerd.[/color:post_uid0]

Celeste 01-27-2004 10:46 PM

I like Hasimir for a cat name![/color:post_uid0]

PointyHairedJedi 01-27-2004 10:58 PM

Well, he was a right scheming sod, so it's fitting for a cat really. I wouldn't mention the assassin part though, you might give kitty some ideas...[/color:post_uid0]

I haven`t decided - any name would do, actually...

I`m also done asking my friends - one of them suggested Glorious Imperial Cat of Romulus.

[quote:post_uid0]What colour is the cat? Â If it's grey, you can call it Mithcharoth (grey-jaw). [/quote:post_uid0]

Well, the problem is... I`m planning in advance, I don`t have a cat yet, :D But I`m getting it tomorrow, or Thursday definitely! I`ll try to get a black and white cat... or an orange cat... What name do you think fits that? :D[/color:post_uid0]

Black and white: Oreo.

Orange: Ginger, although that's a bit obvious.

My knowledge of Elven has suddely deserted me, and my copy of The Silmarillion (with dictionary) is back in Kelowna, and I'm too lazy to find one online.[/color:post_uid0]

Nic Corelli 02-01-2004 06:25 PM

The cat arrives on Tuesday. I suspect she`s from Enterprise B...

(hm, this is probably the first time I`ve ever written the words "Enterprise B")

Anyway, it`s a female, completely white cat. What would be a good name for something like that?

(do not say Snow White) :D[/color:post_uid0]

Sa'ar Chasm 02-01-2004 06:46 PM

Neige Blanche.

*beams*

Mrs. Bigglesworth?[/color:post_uid0]

Standback 02-01-2004 10:09 PM

Just some random thoughts...

* Pearl
* Annika
* Merlot (like the wine)
* Trinity (or just "Trin")
* Scratch
* Slink
* Freud (as in Sigmond)
* Sansa (or just about any nice name from Song of Ice and Fire - I'm a big fan... )
* Snowball

I might also suggest that all female members of this forum have rather nice names; your cat may consider adopting any one of them.[/color:post_uid0]

catalina_marina 02-01-2004 10:24 PM

Yeah. Call your cat "Cat" :D[/color:post_uid0]

Katy Jane 02-02-2004 12:51 AM

^ Now thatÂ’s just mean ;) (this from a girl that once had a gerbil named hamster)

From Standbacks list, Trinity stands out to me, especially Trin for a nickname.

And if you've ever seen the movie Treasure Planet, you could use the name Amelia, which is the name of the kitty captain, she was the coolest thing in that movie. :D

mudshark 02-02-2004 01:46 AM

Anymore, I just call 'em all "Cat" (pronounced "Kett", [i:post_uid0]a la[/i:post_uid0] Ignatz Mouse, in Krazy Kat) -- they'll know who you're talking to.

And yes, they're better than roommates (well, most of them. ;))[/color:post_uid0]

PointyHairedJedi 02-02-2004 02:27 AM

Oh, well, if it's a girl, then Irulan, definetly. I would suggest a few Bene Gesserit names, but I can't seem to recall any at the moment other than Gaius Helen Mohiam, which is hardly catchy. There's always Jessica I suppose.[/color:post_uid0]

I'm gonna name my future cat "Occupant".

Don't steal my idea though :(

You could go with the narrator in [i:post_uid0]Fight Club[/i:post_uid0]'s idea, and name it "Entourage". :)[/color:post_uid0]

Opium 02-02-2004 09:59 AM

Hmm, I tried naming my cats after stuff I liked, like an art period or music style, that the cat reminds me of.

Or you could just name it "SuperCuteBall'oFir" because really, that's what all cats are :)[/color:post_uid0]

Aw, missed that one. Still, it`s a nice name...

[quote:post_uid0]Sneeuwwitje? Sneewittchen?

What is this second one? Snow Witch? I`d put three extra question marks but I`m afraid of Zeke.

Get out of town! I just got myself [i:post_uid0]A Game of Thrones[/i:post_uid0] on Saturday. I saw my sister reading it, checked the book out a little, and it looked so cool! So I asked her to borrow it to me.[/color:post_uid0]

My friend, you are in for a treat. :)

[i:post_uid0]Ice and Fire[/i:post_uid0] has been, like, my #1 favorite book (series) since I found it in 2000. Martin is brilliant in every single aspect of writing. Complex and gripping plots, wonderful (and numerous) characters, best job of world creation since Tolkien (except without the slow, plodding narrative...), and all so original and detailed...

OK, I'll be quiet now.[/color:post_uid0]

I`m starting with the reading today, :)

When I saw the map of "England" (The Seven Kingdoms?) on the beginning of the book, I was mesmerized and found myself observing the map for half an hour, :D I just knew I had to read that thing.[/color:post_uid0]

::blink blink:: Map of England? How come you call it that? Is there much similarity between the Seven Kingdoms map and that of England?

If so, that's very interesting, because the series is (very loosely) based on the War of Roses, so...

In any case, it's definitely a neat map... And neater yet is the way we actually hear about so many of the places on it, and then visit them, one by one...

(goes back to shutting up)[/color:post_uid0]

That IS England, :D Of course, with different cities and names of the rivers, mountains, islands, etc, so it`s impossible to tell that from reading the book, but from looking at a map, you can recognize England (if you like geography very, very much like I do)... :D[/color:post_uid0]

OK, that is [i:post_uid0]extremely[/i:post_uid0] neat... I'd love to hear what places correspond to what (though you might want to read a bit and see what places are the important ones in the book before you go too far down the list...)[/color:post_uid0]

I started reading, and it seems Scotland is the Haunted Forest, where the monsters live, :D Although my book is in Croatian, so I don`t know if the original name is "Haunted Forest". Might be Haunted Woods, Cursed Woods, Cursed Forest... I`d like it better if the book were in English, the last 5 books I read were in English, I got used to it...but, my sister got this Croatian translation for her birthday, so...

And the Frozen Shore is also Scotland... However, is it the Frozen Shore, or the Frozen Coast, or the Icy Coast, or the...? :D[/color:post_uid0]
