Ottawa Comicon 2015
This past weekend I drove down from Sudbury (if you missed the memo, I now work at a place that studies neutrinos) to visit some gamer friends and check out Comicon. The local chapter of the 501st tried to recruit me as Luke Skywalker, and I got a bunch of celebrity autographs.
TNG is the reason I'm a scientist, specifically Wesley (yeah, I know, I was the obnoxious kid nobody liked). It seemed fitting, then, to get my inspirations to autograph my Flame Challenge trophy. Huh, the pics are too big for the forum. I'll link them. Front: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CE2HQAEXIAAReIg.jpg That's Frakes, Wheaton and Sirtis (Wesley gets Picard's chair for this) Back: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CE2HQPUWIAAQDQg.jpg Nichelle Nichols and Malcolm McDowell, which is fitting because I used his line from Generations in my video ("They say time is the fire in which we burn...no, wait, that's a movie.") He quoted it along with me, and then commiserated with me about how fame is fleeting. That was a cool moment. What was even cooler was when I went to Frakes & Sirtis' Q&A and they remembered me when I went up to ask a question, and then told each other my spiel. The cool part is that Frakes overheard it second hand when I was telling Wil at the next table, and still remembered it. And then there's this... https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CEj7q6oVEAA6pvF.jpg:large Turns out Wil's a ham, and I'm disturbed. Yes, that's a Green Lantern costume. I took the mask and ring off for the picture. I spent about 15 minutes on the entire costume, most of that colouring the mask with green Sharpie. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CDcyXq_UsAAPUxi.jpg:large And finally: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CE2F8vrUgAAEw8A.jpg:large Mira Furlan's signature on my fiver. I gave her a copy as a gift. Boxleitner and Koenig were supposed to be there, but they had to cancel, otherwise they would have gotten fivers as well. Maybe Bruce will turn up to another con, and I can get him to do the other corner. So...how was your weekend? |
Sweet! :D :D
The only sci-fi person I've been near is Robert Picardo. He gave a speech when the Star Trek Experience or whatever was in St. Louis. No autograph or anything, I was just there for it. |
Yeah, I remember meeting James Doohan when I was 10. And I saw Dorn give a speech... and ride a RCAF CF-18 Hornet, but that's beside the point.
Your meetings are impressive. |
That was nothing, wait until you hear about the time I had lunch with Alan Alda.
|
That must have been either hilarious or depressing, possibly in rapid alternation.

*bleak*
It's not a lunch, it's a murder. *flips switch* *jaunty* It's not a lunch, it's a moidah! |
