Blast! I had a terrific idea for Pi Day this year (as people who read my LJ know), but I was too busy on the day itself to prepare it. It's too good an idea to waste on a late update, so I'll have to save it for next year. As a substitute, I'll re-link you to what I did last year, The Top 10 Pi Day Activities of Enterprise Characters. (5MV pi/pi Years Ago?) In addition, here are two "seasonal" links: last week's cartoon at Bob the Angry Flower (a frequent source of good math jokes, but I digress) and A Steep Price For Pie, a subcomic of Team Special Olympics. |
On the plus side, this is topic #314 in the News category.
|
Good LORD! This makes it all worthwhile!
...No, wait. It would have been topic 314 anyway. But still! Damn! |
This is the type of coincidence you can't plan.

Either way, I'm afraid I don't really get either of them. |
Same here. The list was good, though.

They're "just" pie jokes. A Steep Price For Pie is a whole series -- there are seven strips so far, so if you don't like the first one, try the others. There are other subcomics, too; An Inappropriate Time For Ham and What a Scoop! are hilarious. The idea in each case, as I see it, is that he picked a title and then wrote cartoons to fit it.
As for Bob the Angry Flower, that's an acquired taste. There's basically no continuity between strips, so you're not missing any context. I can recommend a passel of individual Bob strips I love, but a better idea is to poke around the archives. (Don't just read recent strips... for the last two years or so, Bob has been almost incessantly political. I put up with it because I'm already a fan, but the political stuff won't make you one.) |

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I couldn't really do an update this time, but that's okay, because last year we did enough St. Patrick's Day for about three years. Instead, I'm going to listen to The Corrs' latest album, Home, which is almost entirely traditional Irish stuff. You should too. I hope to resume nontrivial updates this weekend. (Tomorrow, after all, is a good chance to hit the hangover demographic.) Meanwhile, if you're desperate for something Irish, you could always read the Fair Haven scene (with surprise guest star) in "Light Unseen," one of my VS9 episodes. I'm rather proud of it. |
Ah, dsokdpaches....
And, of course, one of the ultimate lines: "Are you out of your vulcan mind!? What? The doctor told me to say it the instance you suggested anything involving mind-melds." |
Not dead. Update when I get home. May the way of the hero lead to the Triforce.
|
You sound tired. Take you time!

Glad that the polar bear repellant works.
EDIT: And thanks for fixing my avatar problem. |
Also not dead :)

Oh crap.
I have no idea what my brilliant Pi Day idea last year was. |
In your LJ you said you were working on it, so do you have something written down somewhere?
|
Nope. I'm just gonna have to try and figure it out again.
|
You know, if you hadn't revived this thread, I doubt anyone would have noticed... quick, hide the evidence! I won't tell anyone... maybe... if the money's right.
|
Mmmm... pi...
|
Crap. I really hope you didn't tell me about it, because I vaguely remember that you might have but have no earthly idea what it might've been.
|
Well, I haven't remembered my Pi Day idea from last year, but I do have a cool new one. Hope I have time to execute it today.
