Anyone have any thoughts on this episode?

I personally liked it a lot.

Likes:
- The eye candy of being in the sun
- The last ten minutes
- The non-aggression and friendliness of the aliens this week

Dislikes:
- Trip's needless persistence. He was just begging for trouble (and I'm glad he got it).

Indifferent:
- Reed's subplot[/color:post_uid0]

Arg! I was just going to post this, but first I checked to make sure in the time I wrote my thread it wasn't posted before... ah well, I'm lazy and pasting my almost-thread verbatim.

* * * * *
I'm starting the thread this time because I simply cannot wait to talk about this episode. I'm amazed at two things really:

1) This episode is one of Trek's finest commentaries in years
2) This episode was written by the killer bees

Now, I'm not a basher of Berman and Braga, but I do feel the best episodes thus far have been written by the other staff writers. "Cogenitor" totally caught me off guard by addressing things I never expected Trek in its play-it-safe slump to do. Especially the ending; the repercussions for Trip's actions were monumentally high -- stakes we just don't see in Trek anymore (maybe never; it's been a while since I've seen new Trek impact me so). The episode gives [i:post_uid0]two[/i:post_uid0] compelling sides to an issue, and ends as a tragedy proving one thing; some issues just don't have right answers. What gets me the most is that, had the Cogenitor lived, he/she/it might have been able to influence others and bring about a truely equal society. Though this is tampering to no end, it's tragic that this chance has been lost.

My only complaint is that Reed's subplot seemingly vanished into thin air. Though it was a bit extraneous anyway, loose ends bother me. That's a minor complaint though.

My arbitrary grade? 9.8 -- this is Enterprise's best.[/color:post_uid0]

The ep was good. Surprisingly so. I mean, I saw the ending coming, but it was quite good.

The logic behind the Vissians' treatment of the cogenitors is weird, though.

Edit: That entire Reed plotline got forgotten about. Weirdly sloppy.

I've got to start posting in these threads again. I'll try to get something in here tomorrow, probably after I do the fiver.

Long story short: I [i:post_uid0]loved[/i:post_uid0] this one.[/color:post_uid0]

I liked it too. But I wouldn't count on my opinion too much, cause I don't remember anything about Reed's subplot. o_o Nor much of the Archer one either, unless they were the one and the same.. Oh wait now that i'm thinking. is Reeds subplot the likeing of the women with the cheese and stuff? Hmm. Yes that did go no where..

Still liked the main story. But the ending with Archer was forced. Either that or I just don't like how Bakula acts. :P[/color:post_uid0]

I was seriously impressed by this one (easily one of Enterprise's best) but for now I only have two comments. One... the promo people at UPN must die. How can you advertise an episode with this fantastic a plot by playing up the sex angle? Yes, this is UPN we're talking about, but this is a new low even for them. The plot was far, far above that. Two... drat, I'm still so mad about the promo that I've forgotten my other point. Fantastic work; this one ranks up with "Dead Stop" in my book, if not above it.[/color:post_uid0]

Hey, Andreas Katsulas was in this one. Tell me someone else noticed!

At least, I THINK it was him.

Darn normal eyes kept throwing me off. ;)[/color:post_uid0]

Good GOD yes! I saw the man in person; I know what he looks like, makeup or no. (More to the point, I know his voice.) And you can be darn sure I'll play with that in the fiver -- though it may not be right on the surface.[/color:post_uid0]

Did I ever! He delivered an amazing performance. I really do not have much to say other than what has already been said.

This is, in my sight, Enterprise's best episode of the season, in no small part to G'Ka - um, I mean Andreas Katsulas. :D[/color:post_uid0]

I saw him too. But I don't remember what other character he played, I know it has something to do with a Chakotay ep? Someone fill me in lol

Edit: Ahh, checking with IMDB.com I now know who he is. ::Backs off into the shadows::[/color:post_uid0]

I didn't watch this because of the previews and the fact I had a math final the next day.

Stupid UPN.[/color:post_uid0]

Just wanted to add that is ep takes a lot from "The Handmaid's Tale". It's a really good ep, but a lot of it could be attributed to Margaret Atwood's book.[/color:post_uid0]
