I can't believe I forgot The Jedi Song for Newgrounds Day!

Nate the Great 10-05-2016 10:01 PM

After doing a search it seems I haven't shilled for the works of Richard AKA stupidfingers who created the Nintoaster. That's right, a Nintendo built into a toaster case because why not. Elsewhere on his channel is the Super Nintoaster and the Super Genintari (a Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Genesis, and Atari 2600 built into one case)

Anyway, somebody decided to go the other way and build a toaster into a Nintendo. Chalk this one up to "the world is weird."

First trailer for the Power Rangers reboot movie.

Once again I had a whole rant typed, but I'll spare you. I'll summarize with "they messed up the fanfare, more than once I was reminded of Fant4stic (that's not a good thing), my expectations are low."

Zoe's Hershey Kisses Collection

There is a collector for everything, and there are more varieties of Hershey's Kisses than you'd think.

Incidentally, I'm not a fan of original Kisses, just like I'm not a fan of pure chocolate in general. I need it to be chocolate AND caramel, chocolate AND peanut putter, or at the very least chocolate AND puffed rice. The ones on that page that I've never had but would like to taste are marshmallow creme, lemon creme, and dulce de leche.

As a random sidenote, my mom was a big fudge fan. I like it with chopped walnuts added. How about you?

Nate the Great 10-08-2016 09:18 PM

Fanart of Studio Ghibli characters as Hogwart's students.

So Kiki is in Gryffindor, that makes sense.
Who's that girl in Hufflepuff?
Howl in Ravenclaw, I guess.
Haku in Slytherin, huh?

Nate the Great 10-12-2016 02:34 PM

Nine years ago I posted a link to the Steam Trek parody.

Well, that was during the dark days of YouTube when a ten minute limit existed. The credits and other footage had to be excised. Well, the limit is gone, and the full version of Steam Trek can now be enjoyed!

It seems only appropriate to link it again for the 50th anniversary.

Looks like a girl called Therru, from Tales From Earthsea.

Nate the Great 10-15-2016 09:11 PM

Well, that's one I haven't seen yet, so it makes sense.

Borrowed Time

A couple of the Pixar animators put together this short in their spare time. Um, yeah...

Nate the Great 10-20-2016 03:23 PM

I forgot to repost the 40th Anniversary Tribute video for the 50th anniversary. No matter how many times I see it I still tear up a bit. Being paired with the Inner Light theme is just perfect.

As a bonus, here's Scotty with the holographic Enterprise bridge again.

Nate the Great 10-20-2016 03:41 PM

Reposting the 40th Anniversary tribute reminded me of how much I like the Inner Light theme, so the heck with it! It's Inner Light Theme Day!

A beautiful, basic piano cover.
A full orchestra plays it. The arrangement here is very similar if not identical to that used for the 40th Anniversary tribute.
Picard and Nella perform it as a duet in the Jeffries Tube.
A theramin cover. A bit more otherworldly, this one.
Mario Paint cover.
Woodwind Quintet Arrangement. Give it a minute to get into full swing.
Accordion cover. I'll bet you didn't think such a thing was possible. I sure didn't!
Using an iPhone ocarina app.

Nate the Great 10-31-2016 05:27 PM

You've all heard the Monster Bash, but have you ever heard the Monster Rap?

Happy Halloween, by the way.

Nate the Great 11-04-2016 03:27 PM

They're doing another live-action Grinch movie.

Benedict Cumberbatch as the Grinch. I'll wait for the trailer before deciding if this works.

The sad part is that I'm fairly certain they're going to do full CGI for the Grinch this time around.

Pogo's newest song features Picard and Data cosplays.

Just when you think life can't get weirder...

Nate the Great 11-05-2016 10:10 PM

Someone turned Data's Ode to Spot into a song.

This guy's voice is a little flat (too much autotune?), but if it's good enough for the Dr. Demento Show, you gotta give him mad props, I guess.

(Incidentally, as soon as I typed "mad props" I was reminded of that time on Frasier...)

Niles: I'll dispense with the usual adolescent teasing and come straight to the point: who was that babe-o-rama?

Frasier: Niles, please don't try to be hip. You remind me of Bob Hope when he dresses up as the Fonz.

Ian's Shoelace Site

More than you ever wanted to know about shoelaces. No, seriously.

Nate the Great 11-18-2016 11:10 PM

It's Star Trek Character Tribute Song Roundup Day! Part of the TOS 50th anniversary celebration. I did a roundup of "The Inner Light" covers last month, so I won't repeat those.

However, before I start in on the links I've already done before and am just copypasting off a YouTube playlist (for the most part, in general, etc.), let's do a new song that I just found:

Scotty (Hilariously bad character impersonations on this one)

Okay, back to reposting. Who knows, maybe there's one or two in here that you've never seen:

Dr. McCoy 1 (incl. "He's Dead Jim" roundup)
Dr. McCoy 2 (Julia Ecklar)
Mr. Spock 1 (MelodySheep)
Mr. Spock 2 (The Laughing Vulcan and His Dog)
Mr. Worf (DarkMateria)
Mr. Data 1 (Ode to Spot)
Mr. Data 2 (Mr. Roboto)
Redshirts (I'm Alive!)
TNG Cast (Make it So/Let it Snow)
Captain Picard (DarkMateria)

So I've just stumbled upon a blog called "Things Organized Neatly". There's a kind of art in just arranging a bunch of objects in a simple array on a table.

...

It's a good thing you guys already know I'm eccentric, right?

Pikachu rendered in Go stones. I was amused.

Nate the Great 12-04-2016 05:32 PM

I just made my periodic pilgrimage to Old Man Murray's Start to Crate pages (which apparently I haven't shilled for in this forum yet). This gave me an idea for another theme day.

Early Internet Day!

By "early Internet", I mean the early 2000s, the days when audio-visual components are sparse or nonexistent, when pages were strictly text and images. Ah, the joys of dialup. I'm not including any video sites since I did a Newgrounds roundup recently and that seems to have it covered.

As If! Before Yu-gi-oh The Abridged Series existed, there was DarkGatomon writing MST's of Yu-gi-oh episodes. She was one of my earliest net friends, along with you guys and the gang over at the original h2g2.com

The Book of Ratings. This one's so old the actual page doesn't exist anymore and I had to bookmark the Wayback Machine version. It's just a bunch of funny lists in the Cracked or Seanbaby genre.

Computer Stupidities. Yeah, I shilled for this one in this very thread back in 2008, but eight years must be enough for statues of limitations to expire. It's still funny and I encourage a rummaging around of the rest of Rinkworks as well.

All Too Flat. I could've sworn I've mentioned this site in the forum before, but the search function is coming up empty. Odd. Anyway, back in the day a bunch of New York college kids collected a bunch of funny stuff and engaged in various pranks. Among my favorite entries are locking a stuffed lion in an empty gym speaker cage, turning New York's Astor Cube sculpture into the world's largest Rubik's Cube, and labeling everything in an apartment with Post-It Notes.

The Voyager Coronary. If you want straight-up bonkers Trek fanfiction where anything and everything can happen, people from any Trek series can show up, and every Trek trope will be skewered, look no further.

Delta Blues. No elaboration necessary. Jim always deserves a mention whenever a related subject is mentioned. I just wish he would take the time to do the last few Voyager Season 7 episodes.

The Cynic's Corner. If Jim plays "good cop" for Voyager episodes, David E. Sluss plays "bad cop". If he didn't have such good arguments, he'd be annoying. But he always has a point and defends his opinions, so you can't hate him. He also covers a bit of Enterprise, DS9, and Andromeda.

Nate the Great 12-24-2016 01:47 AM

Fan animation of a tweaked Ambassador-class design.

I can appreciate the work that went into this, but it doesn't really look "Ambassador-class" anymore, except in a superficial manor.

Nate the Great 12-25-2016 07:36 PM

Merry Christmas!

Today I discovered a new Trek Christmas music video:

A version of "All I Want For Christmas is You" that's a mashup of Trek clips where characters say each word. Apparently the only character to use the word "Christmas" in the franchise is Archer, as the clip is reused a lot.

World's Largest K'nex Ball Contraption

Have you noticed yet that I'm a fan of Rube Goldberg machines? ;)

Along with LEGO, Erector, and Domino Rally, K'nex was a big part of my childhood.

Nate the Great 01-04-2017 05:07 PM

Vi Hart's YouTube channel.

Many years ago I stumbled upon her video about Pi vs. Tau, but took no real notice of the rest of her channel.

Well, today I stumbled upon her channel from a completely different direction (I think it was a comment on a CGP Grey video, but don't quote me on that), and can now recommend more videos if you happen to like humorous mathematical explanations:

Mathematical ways to eat candy buttons. (P.S. I'm not really a fan of candy buttons.)

Playing with toy snakes (boy, do I miss playing Snakes on my TI calculator in high school)

Silly Bands battle (wait for the Hitchhiker's Guide gags)

Properties of a Mobius Strip (via playing around with Fruit by the Foot)

Taking turduckens to the next level, including the nomenclatural problems.

Playing with cookie tesselations, then going 3D!

Nate the Great 01-06-2017 09:17 PM

Someone using a bunch of Rubik's Cubes to make a stop-motion Mario video.

That is, by grouping a bunch of Rubik's Cubes together you can create "sprites".

Nate the Great 01-15-2017 01:44 PM

Little girl loses her teddy bear on a train, and Twitter helps reunite them.

Can I get an "awww!"?

Nate the Great 01-18-2017 11:39 PM

Armatron robot arm toys.

I stumbled upon a YouTube video discussing the repair of these things and let me tell you, it was a nostalgic boot to the head. I had one of these as a child. I don't recall doing much with it, but hey, I had a robot!

Nate the Great 01-19-2017 08:38 PM

New Power Rangers trailer.

Hopes are a little higher, but still in the red. I could've done without the urine sample jar.

Nate the Great 01-20-2017 12:18 AM

I Knew You Were Tribbles (When You Dropped In)

I just discovered a new Trek fan music video.

Nate the Great 01-23-2017 12:07 AM

A music box version of the movie version of the Trek theme.

Nate the Great 01-23-2017 04:10 PM

The very aptly-titled "Probably the Hardest Super Mario Level in Existence."

Never before have my thoughts cycled so many times between "this is really impressive!" and "this guy is completely bonkers!"

Nate the Great 01-24-2017 12:53 AM

Someone takes control of the "camera" in Ocarina of Time to show us new angles and secrets in the game.

It's been almost twenty years, and I'm still learning new things about this game...

Nate the Great 01-28-2017 03:23 PM

Mario Theme Played With RC Car and Bottles

That is, a bunch of glass bottles with different levels of water for the different notes are set up, and then a radio-controlled car with a stick attached to it is driven by the line, tinkling out the Mario theme.

Nate the Great 02-02-2017 02:53 PM

Cinemassacre reviews Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is one of the classics to me. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, it makes me ponder life itself, it makes me cheer.

Pogo remixes sound bytes into a song. Bing!

CGP Grey talks about the tradition and makes a joke based on the movie at the end.

Nate the Great 02-05-2017 11:23 PM

A YouTuber attempts to theorize why 24th-century Starfleet changed uniform designs so much.

PS: Stay until the end for the absolutely worst Q-as-judge costume you will ever see.

Nate the Great 02-06-2017 11:09 PM

The story of the construction of the Shuttlecraft Gallileo set.

NAHTMMM 02-10-2017 10:37 PM

A transcript of a session of Lucas, Spielberg, and Larry Kasdan working on the character of Indiana Jones and the plot of Raiders.

Stair Quest!

A fangame in honor of all of those infuriating pathfinding puzzles in the old Sierra adventure games. Boy, have I fallen off my share of stairs (and a whale's tongue, don't ask) in my time.

If you'd rather not play for yourself, you can just watch Paw Dugan play it for you.

Nate the Great 02-14-2017 08:49 PM

The latest Facebook meme: Guess this animal!

To the ignorant eye this picture may look like an elephant with a black censor bar over its eyes, but the more clever observers have come up with all kinds of funny alternate theories. My favorite is "Jigglypuff seen from above", which is a reference to one of the most infuriating moments from Pokemon.

Nate the Great 02-24-2017 02:12 AM

Star Trek joke from The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

Always liked this one. "To boldly split infinitives that no man had split before!"

Nate the Great 03-05-2017 11:49 PM
