The Quote Linking Game!

One person gives a quote and the next person has to find a quote that is linked to it in some way. The link can be anything from them actually having the same word to some obscure and complicated refrence. It's nice if people say where the quotes are from and maybe explain the connection if it's not obvios.

I'll start with:

"Things involving the computer fill me with a childlike terror. Now, if it were a nice ogre or some such, I'd be more in my element." -- Giles in some episode that I don't remember.

PointyHairedJedi 03-31-2005 04:42 PM

"Ah. A keyboard. How quaint."

I shouldn't need to say where that comes from.

Linus: "We had a good time at school today. Our teacher took us on a field trip. We went out and we saw this great big field. It was a real field, and we saw it! We stood right there and we saw that field!"
Charlie Brown: "Do you think you'll be going on any more field trips?"
Linus: "I doubt it. When you've seen one field, you've seen them all."

You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

- Tennessee Ernie Ford, "Sixteen Tons"

stripysox 04-08-2005 04:55 PM

Nobody seemed to know where John called home
He just drifted into town and stayed all alone
He didn't say much, kinda quiet and shy
And if you spoke at all, you just said "Hi" to Big John

- I don't know who wrote this song but I used to have it on the same tape as Sixteen Tons.

Well way down yonder in Louisville
Lived a cat named Big Bad Bill
I wants ta tell ya,
Oh the cat was rough and tough, he could strut his stuff
Had the whole town scared to death
When he walked by they all held their breath
He's a fightin' man, sho' enough
But then Bill got himself a wife,
Now he leads a different life...
Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now
Married life done changed him somehow
He's the man the town used to fear,
Now they all call 'im Sweet Poppa Willy dear
Stronger than Samson, I declare,
'Till a brown-skinned woman's bobbed his hair
Big Bad Bill don't fight any more (no he don't)
He's doin' the dishes, and moppin' up that floor (yes he is)
Well he used to go out drinkin', lookin' for a fight,
Now he's gotta see that sweet woman ev'ry night
Big Bad Bill is Sweet William now

(Van Halen cover of someone else's song, on the album "Diver Down," Jan Van Halen on clarinet)

"At that point, looking remarkable healthy, the skunk gave me the finger (I swear!) and casually strolled back into the woods." --William Shatner

(it involves a cat-like animal and William.)

NAHTMMM 04-12-2005 03:20 AM

"He took a sort of a disgusted look at hisself, 'n' then he looked at us--an' it was just exactly the same as if he had said--'Gents, maybe you think it's smart to take advantage of a cat that ain't had no experience of quartz-minin', but I think different'--an' then he turned on his heel 'n' marched off home without ever saying another word."

--Dick Baker in Mark Twain's "Tom Quartz"

Too many teardrops for one heart to be cryin
Too many teardrops for one heart to carry on
Youre gonna cry ninety-six tears

"Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit’s dead, there’s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?"

-- David Bowie, "Space Oddity"

Zeke 04-16-2005 05:09 AM

"...creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
to the last syllable of recorded time,
and all our yesterdays have lighted fools
the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
that struts and frets his hour upon the stage
and then is heard no more: it is a tale
told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
signifying nothing."
