This will surprise no one but I disagree emphatically with the idea that the new series is "kiddy" oriented. The Ninth Doctor's exuberant demeanor is only the deliberately misleading surface of a dark and complicated interplay between more and less positive views of human nature, responsibility, and capacity.

Of course, that's just my opinion. Those who do not see merit in the new series are missing out, but they're free to do so. This often turns out to be the case with exceptional sf/f TV (Farscape, Firefly, etc.)--the depths and innovations seem to prove elusive beyond the base of fans who discover them and own them. And then they get canceled. Meanwhile the public watches terribly blatant stuff like Taken and thinks it's subtle.
