[color=#000000ost_uid0]A quick search revealed that TrekToday only had [iost_uid0]one[/iost_uid0] mention of 5MV in their archives, which was a mention of its third anniversary last year. I'm sure they'll get round to it soon though.
Yes, that was deliberate. EDITED to add - the shoulder-bar thing only seems to be wonky in Opera. In IE it's fine.[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]A word of gratitude from me as well... so glad to see the site up and running on the new server, and so quickly and smoothly, too! Well done. And congrats on the TAS completion - /me is an utter ignoramus in TOS and TAS, but had fun with the batch anyway...[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]The main problem with that is that I don't have Opera to know what it looks like. Unless its also happening in Mozilla in which case someone will need to better describe what we're talking about.
Screenshots, anyone?[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0][quoteost_uid0="Guest"]I'm having some problems. I tried to change my e-mail adres on my control panel. It still had my hotmail adres, which I haven't used for a year. The board said I was going to get a confirmation mail, but it never got there. Now I can log in, but I can't post, reply or use any of the board-functions anymore.
I suppose the new server can't send e-mails yet, or something. Zeke, can you take a look?[/quoteost_uid0] That may be the problem. I set up the mailserver today, so see if you can get it to send you that confirmation email again. If not, email me at zeke@sci-fivers.com.ar and I'll fix your address personally. [EDIT: Actually, I think I just fixed it now. Give it a try.][/colorost_uid0] Edited By Zeke on 1083207949

Well, I only started using it something like a week ago, so that would be why I didn't know. Is there no way to make it the same?[/quoteost_uid0] Well, that all depends on who you talk to. It's funny that the same HTML produces three different results:

[color=#000000ost_uid0]I don't usually hate on the W3C, but in that case, Microsoft seems to have the better interpretation. In percentage of *remaining* space? That's not only counterintuitive, it doesn't make too much sense on it's own either. I mean, really, what's the use?

[color=#000000ost_uid0]Well, I think it would be nice to have a way to do both. There are times when you want to have your images take up 17% of the screen space so it will scale well regardless of how big or small someone's browser is, but there could come a time when 85% of the screen is already claimed and then the image forces a sideways scroll. And there are other times when you want an image to take up 100% of the remaining space even if it's as much as 50% or as little as 5%.[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]It's still mostly IE that enrages me, though. So many people use it, so we can't ignore it. But it won't even accept all CSS2 selectors. That's why standards are good. So us webdesigners won't have to jump through hoops to make websites crossbrowser compatible. By the way: Zeke, thanks for fixing my account. [/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]I switched to relative image sizes the first time I redesigned 5MV, when I was on a real browser-independence kick. I still think that's an important factor, but what became increasingly clear to me over the years is that resized images [iost_uid0]suck[/iost_uid0]. The loss in quality is huge. That's why I'm phasing out the relative sizing: the front page now lets the images take their natural sizes, and under the new PHP system I'll be doing the same with our other pages.[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]PHP is your friend.
I haven't used tables in a long time, either. I like using container divs--centered by setting right and left margins to auto--with smaller divs inside. If you make the width of the Jar div around 750-775 pixels, it won't be too big for 800x600 and won't be unreadably tiny on 1024x768. In a perfect world, CSS could do what JavaScript does. Then I would be mighty indeed. [/colorost_uid0] Edited By Nan on 1083276929 |

[color=#000000ost_uid0]I always use relative measurements when I create pages. I use
em s and ex s or percents. That way it scales well regardless of font size or browser size.[/colorost_uid0]
