As a nonfan, I wasn't all that impressed with the trailer.

Seemed sort of generic to me. If I knew nothing about the show, I'd probably think it was another crappy sci-fi movie along the lines of Supernova or Wing Commander.

I'm not saying it won't be good, and I'm not saying fans won't be pleased.

I just doubt the film will have the power to draw in much of the general public, and if it does I somehow doubt it will hold their interest.

All the space-actiony stuff is actually quite out of sorts with the series. I think it looks very, very interesting myself, but then my perception as a fan of the show is hardly unbiased.
