I'll bet you didn't know that "I Hate You" from The Voyage Home was a real song.

Well, it is.

At least, it's longer than the clip used in the movie. Incidentally, it was recorded by ultraobscure (as in, the band was a bunch of people from the sound department working on Star Trek IV, and they only recorded this one song) band Edge of Etiquette and the punk on the bus was played by associate producer Kirk Thatcher, who also wrote the lyrics.

The Star Trek Theme has been discofied.

I have no words. Give it a minute for the lyrics to start.

Scotty, Data, and "It is green."

Green Aldebaran whiskey and red Starfleet uniforms, what could be more festive than that?

Controlling Mario 1 with a theramin.

If you don't know what a theramin is, just knowing that it's a stringed musical instrument should be enough to know how hard it'd be to use as a controller.

Er... are you sure you know what a theremin is, Nate? Much like Ultron, there are no strings on it. (It's also like Ultron in being completely electronic.)

That was neat. There are quite a few interesting spins on Mario 1 to be found on YouTube; here are two of my favourites.
  • First Person Mario. Somebody went to a lot of trouble recreating Stage 1-1 as an FPS, complete with achievements. This is just the tip of the iceberg -- there's a playable version out there too, and same goes for the first two Zeldas. There's even 8-Bit Deathmatch, a popular Doom/Quake clone based on the classic Mega Man series.
  • Some people play Mario fast. Some play slow. Some can't control the stupid moron plumber and get killed all the time. (Ahem.) Wanna see all that at once? Here's what it looks like when nearly a thousand people's playthroughs of the same Mario level are superimposed! (It looks like a custom Mario 1 stage, though the video is set to the relaxing music of Mario 2.)

By the way, I think I'll rename this the "Link Thread", since the "dump" part is a reference that's pretty dated now. Any objections?

Well, he played it sorta like it was a stringed instrument....

It's okay, Nate, we got some new forum titles out of it.

Freaky Dot Patterns

I've shilled for Numberphile before, but I found their newest video particularly interesting. Optical illusions and related subjects have long been an interest of mine.

He's lucky. Mine is referring to the wrong core.

What, really? I didn't realize you could tell personality cores apart just by looking. But yeah, now that I check, Wheatley's "eye" is blue.

That said, the title is sort of self-fulfilling. Apparently that avatar did make me stupider.

Here I was, going to change it to Captain Obvious. You have convinced me otherwise.

Bravo.

Someone put a slinky on a treadmill and started both going. Then they backed it with overblown "epic" music to drive home the point.

It's strangely relaxing...

Dave Barry is still doing year-in-review columns! Here's the one for this year. Funny stuff as always.

Someone has connected a motion detector to a set of Tesla coils such that you can act like a supervillain and summon lightning.

It's things like this that make me proud to be a nerd.

A "music box" version of the Duck Tales Moon theme.

Every once in awhile you want a nice, simple, relaxing version of a classic song.

The trailer for the (fake) Oregon Trail Movie.

Hey, if Where's Waldo, Minesweeper, and Tetris can have movie trailers, why not Oregon Trail?

The Magic School Bus: The Movie Trailer

What can I say about the Magic School Bus that would be profound and not stupid? I'm stumped...
