# 1
Triangle Triangle
Appearances: 421
Year Two was certainly an eventful one for Triangle. For everybody, in fact -- the plot progressed at a faster clip that year than it has since. Triangle sought the Food Pyramid, battled Linda Concarne, and got the first glimpses of his true power. His total of 421 makes him the only T&R character to appear in more than 50% of the strips -- will he keep it up?
# 2
Robert Robert
Appearances: 361
It was an interesting year for Robert too; he ran for governor and led a daring submarine mission to rescue Cube. He didn't even attempt the actual rescue, but that's Robert for you.
# 3
The Cartoonist The Cartoonist
Appearances: 224
The Cartoonist's psychological problems continued to rule the strip in year two, with storylines springing first from his fear of success and then from his insanity. He didn't encounter quite as much active resistance from the characters this year, but that doesn't mean they resented him any less. They were probably just more used to resenting him.
# 4
Cube Cube
Appearances: 95
Cube had a pretty good year, aside from spending the first few months dead, getting beaten within an inch of his life by sheep, crashlanding in a plane, getting imprisoned in Tetris, and being used as a six-sided die.
# 5
Orpuddex Orpuddex
Appearances: 67
Despite his stint as a gargantuan monster, the Pudding-Watcher lost his #4 spot to Cube in year two. One more reason to hold a grudge.
# 6
Mr. Disease Mr. Disease
Appearances: 55
Know who Mr. Disease reminds me of? Splinter. Now you know. Anyway, Mr. Disease has the distinction of appearing 54 times as often in year two as in year one.
# 7
The Cornersheep The Cornersheep
Appearances: 49
The Cornersheep couldn't seem to hang onto anything this year -- he lost both the Oval and the peppermill in short order. He also lost battles to Orpuddex and Cube. Almost makes you feel sorry for him.
# 8
Prozac the Bear Prozac the Bear
Appearances: 39
Prozac got his big break in year two (metaphorically; his literal big break was delivered by Triangle in year one). His mystery deepened with moments like the Puddan story, where his font morphed into the Cartoonist's, and the Tetris adventure, with the "Oh, we're not anywhere at all" scene. Makes you think.
# 9
Inverted Capital G / Bark Inverted Capital G / Bark
Appearances: 31
Year two was huge for this guy, of course. Not only did he figure in several plotlines as an inverted capital G, but in the year's climax he regained his true form. That's not yet reflected in the pictures here (nor is it for the other Sentries), but it soon will be.
# 10
The Food Pyramid The Food Pyramid
Appearances: 30
The first of the major players introduced in year two, the Food Pyramid got a lot of attention as a framed fugitive and an RDCLBA agent. He one-upped the Cornersheep by successfully capturing the Oval, though that was mostly luck (it was out of fuel and didn't use its polygon-controlling powers for whatever reason). Like the other Sentries, he regained his memory and powers just in time to be trounced by Orpuddex.
# 11
The Vegetable Sentry The Vegetable Sentry
Appearances: 20
The first current Sentry we saw and the only one without another name or form, the Vegetable Sentry defeated the giant Orpuddex and made occasional appearances thereafter. It would be nearly two years before he got much of a personality.
# 12
The Oval The Oval
Appearances: 19
Another eventful year for the Oval (the Oval always has eventful years). It was freed from the world's core by the Cornersheep, then captured by the Food Pyramid after a brief visit to Robert. After that it went into orbit for a while, not to resume activity till year three.
# 13
Linda Concarne Linda Concarne
Appearances: 17
A villainous Meat Enforcer at first, Linda Concarne quickly became an ally of Triangle and Robert for reasons she didn't know. All was revealed at the end of the year during the Sentries' short-lived reunion.
Cursed Relic Cursed Relic
Appearances: 17
Boy, this thing was all over the place in the first year. Is it a polygon? A polyhedron? A who cares?
# 14
The Artist's Irrational Fear of Potatoes The Artist's Irrational Fear of Potatoes
Appearances: 13
I'd forgotten this guy's cameo in the Cartoonist's mind in year two. I'm pretty sure we haven't seen him since then, though.
Voice of Triangle's Destiny Voice of Triangle's Destiny
Appearances: 13
Four years later, we still don't know who this is or what it wants to tell Triangle. Sucker.
# 15
Temp Temp
Appearances: 9
The first of the many, many "rectangle" characters. She doesn't work here anymore.
# 16
Dot and Other Dot Dot and Other Dot
Appearances: 8
I'm surprised at how many strips these two got. I'm counting the v2.0 dots as the same characters, but still.
# 17
The Pentagon The Pentagon
Appearances: 7
My favourite minor character, the head of the RDCLBA appeared in a few different guises during the first year, including the guy with Robert at the library. By the way, you know you reread T&R too much when you don't have to look up the spelling of RDCLBA.
# 18
Starham Starham
Appearances: 6
Appearing only once in its delicious, fully cooked form, the Starham continued as a bone for a few more appearances, finally triggering a major "plot nexus" at the end of the year. And it still wasn't done affecting things -- Triangle used its remnants to cure the Sentries in year three. What we still don't know is how it happened that this properly cured ham formed among the stars.
Mr. Soap Mr. Soap
Appearances: 6
First appearing (though not first mentioned) in year two with Prozac, Mr. Soap led a brief but productive life.
# 19
The M&M The M&M
Appearances: 5
Is M&M the singular of M&Ms? There's still an "and" in there....
Librarian Librarian
Appearances: 5
My mistake -- this librarian did appear again, shushing Triangle while he researched the Food Pyramid.
Reporter Reporter
Appearances: 5
This reporter got two more appearances questioning Robert during his gubernatorial campaign.
# 20
Door Guards Door Guards
Appearances: 4
One smiles, one doesn't, like a pair of troubadour masks. They were no match for Robert's "logic."
The Peppermill The Peppermill
Appearances: 4
The cause of much ado in year two, it was first seen by Cube while dead. This led to the death of Robert, and later the severe beating of the revived Cube. Cube finally retook it from the Cornersheep, upon which it got him imprisoned in Tetris. What is it, cursed or something?
Prisoners From Plane Prisoners From Plane
Appearances: 4
These poor guys got dragged along with Cube for his Tetris adventure, and then "saved" by Prozac the Bear. Cube later rescued them offscreen, and they presumably returned to their lives. (Only to get mind-zapped by the Oval a year later, but that's another story.)
# 21
The Beforings The Beforings
Appearances: 3
Interestingly, Recapulon has now confirmed my belief that Cartoonist Guy's strip counted as a Beforings appearance. It's apparently canon that Triangle indirectly created his own universe -- hence "puddogenesis," as I should have guessed. Now I may have to rethink the "in a world he never made" bit in Triangle's bio.
The Square Guild The Square Guild
Appearances: 3
These kids had three times as many appearances as anyone else from the Oz parody! Lucky duckies.
Octagonal Fish Owner Octagonal Fish Owner
Appearances: 3
That's an octagon who owns a fish, not the owner of an octagonal fish. There'd be a hyphen. (We now return you to your regularly scheduled non-pedantry.)
Cartoonist Guy Cartoonist Guy
Appearances: 3
Dot and Other Dot really suck at drawing. Or maybe they're great, and the Cartoonist can't draw what they drew....
Police Officer Police Officer
Appearances: 3
We only saw him briefly, giving Triangle a hint on his quest for the Food Pyramid, but he made an impression. Given his profession, his shape is like a visual pun.
Dragon Dragon
Appearances: 3
This dragon isn't actually the one who killed Robert -- their heads are shaped a little differently. This is the one who played "Riddles in the Dark" with Cube after his bad run-in with a sheep squadron.
Vohkloss, the Serpent of Many Colours Vohkloss, the Serpent of Many Colours
Appearances: 3
Finding out his new colour scheme really took the wind out of Vohkloss's sails. Like "Serpent of Many Colours" is particularly threatening anyway.
Fractal Dragon Fractal Dragon
Appearances: 3
There's probably some pun to be made here involving the name Shenlong and some piece of fractal terminology, but I'm not seeing it. Does this guy grant a lot of wishes or what?
Concarne's Assistant Concarne's Assistant
Appearances: 3
There are worse people to be stuck working for than Linda Concarne. I can't think of one in T&R, though. Maybe Orpuddex.
Quadrilateral Client Quadrilateral Client
Appearances: 3
This guy provided a quick diversion after the Backstory of Cube storyline. He didn't come out of it well, but maybe you can get vertices reattached in T&R's world. What else would the hospitals do?
Tetris Automata Tetris Automata
Appearances: 3
We didn't learn of their totalitarian constructivist leanings till year three, but we saw a fair bit of them. Nasty, poky things.
# 22
Triangular Pyramid Thing Triangular Pyramid Thing
Appearances: 2
Now available for a limited time only: this guy's lower vertex! If you look closely, you'll notice the probable reason the Cartoonist never drew him in his entirety. He's congruent to a corner of Cube.
Mysterious Wallpaper-Selling Entities Mysterious Wallpaper-Selling Entities
Appearances: 2
It was probably wise for Triangle and Robert not to buy what these beings were selling. Still, factory discounts are hard to turn down.
Rectangle Selling Wallpaper Rectangle Selling Wallpaper
Appearances: 2
For a two-shot YAR (yet another rectangle), she actually did something pretty important, giving us the first exposition about the Cartoonist's effects on T&R's world. Doesn't do her much good, though. She won't be leaving the twos any time soon.
Unpronounceable Foreign-Sounding Name, Spelling Bee Proprietor Unpronounceable Foreign-Sounding Name, Spelling Bee Proprietor
Appearances: 2
It's not often you see a name this long for a character this brief.
Trapezoidal Agent 59 Trapezoidal Agent 59
Appearances: 2
Hey, two trapezoids in a row! Fancy that.
# 23
Zone of No Pudding Zone of No Pudding
Appearances: 1
I couldn't resist including this. The Zone itself was in a number of other strips, but I'm only counting the door's appearances.
Fish Fish
Appearances: 1
This ballet instructor has a reputation for... wait, what am I talking about?
Ticket Line Ticket Line
Appearances: 1
Man, I've waited in lines that shape.
The Artist's Fear of Success The Artist's Fear of Success
Appearances: 1
Ironically, the fear of success succeeded in sidetracking the strip for a week. Wonder if it was afraid to.
Guardian of the Golden Way Guardian of the Golden Way
Appearances: 1
I love this guy. A total throwaway character, but one of the funniest in the strip.
Triangle's Pentagonal Crisps Triangle's Pentagonal Crisps
Appearances: 1
Mmmm, pixely. These confections, representing the speed of cultural change over the last decade, were judged equal to Mr. Disease's fortune cookies. We also have a full recipe, but that doesn't count as an appearance. In your face, crisps.
