View Full Version : Day of the Ninja

That's right, ladies and gentlemen! This December 5th is the fourth annual Day of the Ninja, and as self-respecting geeks we should do something to commemorate the occasion. Granted, our options are more limited than we'd have for Talk Like a Pirate Day, but there must still be something that we can do. Some options are:
1. Have as many people as possible adopt ninja-themed avatars for the day, if only the official Day of the Ninja logo.(http://ninjaburger.com/dotn/)
2. Publish some ninja fivers, if only here in the forums. If enough people want I could even five the Three Ninja movies. That'd be cool, right?
3. Post pictures of ourselves wearing T-shirt masks. (http://ninjaburger.com/employment/manual/ninjamask.jpg)
Ideas? Insults? Kudos? Free cheeseburgers?

'Remarkable', in a stereotyped accent.

WHAT? How did you know? No one is supposed to know! Ahem.
You saw nothing. No one was here. There are no ninjas. These aren't the droids you're looking for.

Going with a classic is always in good taste. Too bad that for the rest of my life "these aren't the droids you're looking for" will be associated not with Obi Wan directly, but with Dave Anez hanging upside down from the top of a Bob and George panel trying to explain away a plot hole.

It's not associated with Star Wars for me either, but I'll be damned if I remember what I do think of it with.
Don't ask me how that works. It just does.

Oh yeah, certain ideas just supersede others in our minds. For example...
1. Whenever the radio plays "American Pie," my mind has a fifty-fifty chance of singing the lyrics to "The Saga Begins" instead. Okay, maybe it's sixty-forty. :)
2. The song All Star by Smash Mouth has permeated my mind to such an extent that even though it's not my favorite by any stretch of the imagination, to this day when the radio starts "Somebody once told me..." I start to sing along immediately, sometimes I'm so fast that I can latch in on "body." It's an addiciton, and a terribly insidious one at that. One of these days I'm gonna have to toss it into a fiver, just to make sure that the immortality it's thrust upon me endures, sort of like a chain fiver. ;) There's a new one for the glossary, huh?
3. Simularily my favorite inane fiver couplet continually pops up in my mind: "You know they say a fool and her dog are soon parted." "Who cares?" As Dave Barry would say, it's a terrible waste of brain cells. No offense, Zeke.

Oh, and to return the topic to the Day of the Ninja, what are our thoughts on the topic?

Thoughts? Topic?
Wha'?
Nate the Great

I'm sad to admit that you have a point there. About the topic, not the thoughts. We all have a lot of thoughts, not all of them relevant, important, or funny, but we all have a lot of thoughts.

Come on. Since when do we stay on topic around here?
That being said...NINJA!

Yikes, this waiting line is pretty long. So long that everyone in the other line already has their PS3s and have gone home. :)

Reference (http://www.pvponline.com/archive/2004/pvp20040820.gif)? What reference (http://workingtitle.comicgenesis.com/)?
Nate the Great

Okay, that's just obscure. I guess you can find a webcomic about anything these days, huh?

Someone wan't paying attention.
Nate the Great
11-23-2006, 11:58 AM
Paying attention to what? The oscurity of webcomics, or the fact that someone linked ninja webcomics to a ninja thread?
MaverickZer0

"NINJA!"
"GAH!"
The reference. Pay attention. There will be a test on this later. ;p

And me without my number two pencil... ;)
For the record, that second webcomic isn't obscure around here. It's a side project of Nan, a.k.a. Nan the Mysterious Romulan, a.k.a. winterbourne, a.k.a. The Ensign, a.k.a... well, you get the picture. (I could go on a while, though. I've known her through about 50 names.) She still does the NINJA! thing at the slightest provocation, and Sa'ar and I are still expected to give the proper response.
In other news, how did I not know there was a Ninja Day? I'll have to do something. After all, I'm not just a ninja, I'm ten ninjas (http://www.dieselsweeties.com/shirts/iamtenninjas/).
Nate the Great
11-27-2006, 01:05 AM
Uh, yeah, even if I'd known that, in fact especially if I'd known that, I wouldn't read the comic. All of the old-timers out there can relax, I'm not going to start into a rant on the legendary Nate/Nan feud, but let's just say that it remains in full effect as far as I'm concerned.
So, any further ideas on what's doable that we can use to celebrate Day of the Ninja? We're at nine days and counting to go.

Okay, the big day is once again approaching! A week and a half to go! Any thoughts on what to do? I'm thinking of doing a Batman Begins altver (there are ninjas in it, and it's not scifi, so we won't be seeing one on the main site, will we), but what do you guys think?

I'll probably just go around saying "NINJA!" at random intervals, and lamenting the fact that no-one gets it.

Okay, it's a day early, but here's the official International Day of the Ninja avatar! I sort of wish we had an official exclamation for this holiday (like Aarrggh! for Talk Like A Pirate Day), but I suppose ai-yah! (or however you spell it) comes the closest.

I just noticed that your ninja avatar still has a Canadian patch on his shoulder. Cool.

Hmmm. I have have to try and cook up a Ninja Catbert.
Nate the Great
12-05-2007, 09:03 AM
Ninja Catbert? Hmmm...
Mordac: Do you recognize this?
Dilbert: My printer cable! WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!?!
Catbert: Mordac! It is I, Catbert, the Evil Director of Human Resources. YOU MADE MY PRINTER A SHARED DEVICE!
Dilbert: Two wrongs made a right.
Dogbert: Welcome to my reality.
Love that scene. ;) "Welcome to my reality" is a line that I'd use more often in Real Life if I thought I'd actually get away with it.

I thought the Canadian patch turned out nicely, but the shape of the head just looks stupid.
I was going to make it better, so that you could see a vague outline of actual sleeves there, but I didn't have time. Working in a post office + Christmas time = chaos. Parcels literally stacked as tall as me.
I may get around to doing so by this time next year...

Well, my attempt at a ninja Catbert sucked, so you'll just have to imagine it instead.
