View Full Version : If you could save any non-Trek scifi show

Okay, this is a simple discussion topic. Picture this scenario: You have an unlimited budget and access to any specialists and stations required to "save" any non-Trek scifi show. Any and all actors (for the incarnation of the "senior staff" that you prefer) are available at the appropriate age. What show do you save?

If you choose DW, you need to specify which Doctor. Ditto for the rest of these "rebooted" shows like BSG and so on.

Seven Days.

Because.

Firefly's probably the obvious answer. The run was so short, it never really had a chance to suck. Unless you count the movie -- boy, did that suck.

I might say BSG as well, since it looks like it's only going to get four seasons out of a planned five season run. But really, it all depends on how well season four plays out. It might benefit from a tighter season.

The original BSG is an interesting choice as well. Especially seeing some of the planned stories for season two. Of course, with budget constraints and meddling from network executives, the show never really had much chance to shine anyhow.

God, I loved Sliders. The early Sliders, with the Professor....before he......he....
I'm sorry It's too painful.

Otherwise Go Buffy/Angel! Do they count? Being fantasy?

I'd pick Firefly, because... it's... really... shiny. 'nuff said.

Oh, I miss Seven Days, too.

Buffy and Angel aren't scifi, so no they don't count. Besides, were they even pulled prematurely?

I'm still amazed that they kept Sliders on as long as they did. I quit watching in the middle of the second season, just in time as I hear.

Dresden Files. I think it's in danger.

Firefly. Because Serenity was awesome and I want the series.

SG-1. I know it's legitimately ending and there will be movies. I also don't care. I still want my new Stargate fix.

And Atlantis as a knock-on-wood thing just in case.

"Legitimately ending?" They're gonna have to make not one, but TWO TV movies to tie up the loose ends. I don't call that legitimate. As much as I enjoy having new episodes, I'm forced to agree with the pundits who said "hey, they tied everything up nice and tidy with a bow at the end of Season Eight. Wouldn't that have been a nice way to end the series?"

Futurama, of course. That show had more internal consistency by accident than Trek had on purpose.

Legitimately ending meaning 'ending after a long run and not cancelled' not 'all loose threads tied up.' I quite agree that they should try and put it all in the series.

I also have to agree with Sa'ar. Futurama is gold.

I Heart Futurama.

Hmm.

I think it would have to be Doctor Who for me :)

Futurama's already been saved though. Four 90 minute movies coming out this December.

Wow. I'm good.

(But Bender is great)

I'd pick The Flash.

What?

(See also the disclaimer to this T10 list. Oddly enough, a couple of these have halfway come true.)

I'd pick The Flash.

Isn't that a cleaning liquid?

Forgot about Futurama. That tops anything.
Oh Was Quantum Leap sci-fi?
That needed an ending.
I mean, a better ending.

I don't accept your definition, Mav.

Isn't SG1 going to eventually finish with a movie trilogy? That's what I heard.

FIREFLY MUST LIVE ON! See my siggy. But they have to accidentally forget that Wash and Book died.

I've only heard about two movies, but wandering around I've noticed that they want to make a new series starring Daniel! Awesome, if you ask me.

I've heard Carter will be moving permanently to Atlantis. Please tell me that's not true...

I want a series starring Walter Harriman. You know, showing all different teams coming back through the gate, maybe sg1 could turn up every now and then. I think that could work, it has all sorts of possibilities. It's probably not going to happen though.

Nate the Great

What's wrong with Carter in Atlantis?

Harriman is great, no question.

MaverickZer0
05-02-2007, 07:40 AM
It's Carter going to Atlantis? Oh, great.

Because of what she does, and her past interactions with Atlantis characters. We won't get the McKay/anyone else but Carter dynamic anymore, and there's only so many times you can watch them argue.

Nate the Great
05-02-2007, 03:13 PM
Oh come now, after ten years you don't give the creators more credit than that?

I'm going to be naughty and say Enterprise. :D

Zeke
05-02-2007, 08:42 PM
That was naughty of you.

Seriously though, if I can drop the sci-fi requirement for a sec, there's one show whose cancellation I'm most frustrated about right now: The OC.

What?

Nate the Great
05-03-2007, 01:39 AM
Stop being naughty. Although since I've long said that Enterprise ain't Trek, I suppose I was asking for it.

AKAArzosah
05-03-2007, 01:50 AM
The OC.
I knew you'd say that.

I suppose you're right about giving them a bit more credit, Nate, but even so, ANY McKay/Carter arguing will annoy me. They could have brought Daniel to Atlantis, as there's not really a character performing that role. Getting into the history of the Ancients would provide at least a few episodes.
But who needs Carter when McKay is (almost) as smart, and much more entertaining?

Then again, I haven't seen any of Season 3 yet so I don't really know what's happening, except from spoilers.

Nate the Great
05-03-2007, 02:28 AM
Well, who says that Carter will be in the lab all the time? After all, she is a Colonel, remember? Who's to say that she won't kick Sheppard out and take over AE-1? AE-1 stands for Atlantis Expedition. I just invented it. The online transcripts say "Team Sheppard," but I still think that they need to name the team already!

MaverickZer0
05-06-2007, 10:25 AM
That would be even worse. Team Sheppard rules. Next you'll be wanting 'Gateship 1' and all that.

I wanted it to be Daniel, too. Especially since he wants to go so much, it makes sense for him to go, and yeah, I want some geek moments.

Oh wait. This even technically is sci-fi. Mega Man NT Warrior/ Rockman.exe. I'm still upset it's over, dammit. They didn't even show it all here.

...Also throw in another vote for Enterprise.

Nate the Great
05-06-2007, 07:32 PM
I think Gateship One is reasonable, logical, and boring. Give me Puddlejumper any day.

Enterprise isn't Trek, but it's automaticlaly blackballed from consideration. Please don't make me rant on the non-Trekness of Enterprise again.

Mwahahahahah.

I'd ask for further elucidation on what you think "saving" Enterprise would accomplish, but then you'd tell me. :)
