The Eight by Katherine Neville. It's a thriller, a mystery revolving around the metaphor of chess.
Also, Digital Fortress by the same person who wrote The DaVinci Code (I can't remember the author's name.) It's along the same lines, only more modernized, and also delves deep into the internal workings of the US Government codebreakers. ...I read too many thrillers.
