We Fly By Night covers some of the early ideas for the E-D bridge.
I knew about the idea of putting the conference table in the rear, but WFBN seems to have forgotten the early idea of putting the transporter pads on the bridge. Then they realized the importance of being able to have conversations on the way to the transporter room. What's my favorite bridge from a functional standpoint? The TOS bridge, actually. The captain can turn his head and talk to every officer, it takes minimal time to get from station to station, etc.
